Preparing For Summer Break
As our school districts conclude the 2024-2025 school year, BCFF is wrapping up our Birdie Bags program and preparing for our Summer Feeding Program. With the dedication and tireless efforts of our team members and volunteers, we were able to provide a total of 50,955 Birdie Bags throughout the 14 school districts we collaborated with during the school year. This could not have been done without the hard work of our amazing volunteer team—who dedicated 2,643 hours to help us reach this amazing number of Birdie Bags.
Food insecurity in school-aged children and teens can lead to lower test scores, repeating grades, and failure to graduate from high school—all of which can create barriers to thrive. It is vital to support the children in our community and provide them with the necessary tools to grow into their potential. Success starts within the community; our goal is to bridge the gap and become a champion for children in need.

This summer, BCFF packed 1,925 Birdie Bags for the Summer Feeding Program—compared to last year’s pack of 1,500 Birdie Bags. The Summer Feeding Program involved the Barberton, Cuyahoga Falls, and Kent school districts and partnerships with community members, including Akron Metropolitan Housing Authority (AMHA) in Barberton, who provides affordable housing for individuals and families in need; Barberton Area Community Ministries (BACM), a food distribution center; and Community Action Portage County, a sponsor for the Summer Feeding Program that aims to advocate and empower the community members.
We are grateful for our devoted team of volunteers who work tirelessly year after year to assist us with our Birdie Bag packs. We are excited for our growth leading into the next school year, and we look forward to another successful year of bridging the gap between childhood hunger and success.
